Mend is a regular dining chair that can create a better posture when working on a laptop at a dining table. Mend is used as an everyday dining chair at a normal seating height. When needed Mend can reach a second, higher, seating height simply by changing the position of the runner frame. The change in height is possible due to the specific characteristics of the metal frame, exploiting the tension and flexibility of the material, thus creating a more appropriate seating position when working on a laptop. Mend has a seating height of 45 cm in the low setting and 48.5 cm in the high setting.
There is a growth in the number of people working at home at their dining tables, which creates a problem with bad seating positions causing backache. Therefore I wanted to create a chair that improves the working position at the dining table, when there is need for it, but still appears as a simple dining chair. This is why I wanted to challenge the perception of the appearance of a height-adjustable chair. The inspiration for the design of Mend comes from an interest in exploring the possibilities and characteristics of materials combined with an aim of creating functional design with simple aesthetic solutions.
